After having our second son, I entered a long battle with chronic anxiety and depression. It took me years to find the words to explain my struggle. I was stuck, unsure of what was happening to me, and without the tools I needed to get better. Through these tough years, my marriage struggled as my husband also lacked the skills required to support and help me. Only once I started medication could our marriage begin to heal, as we both had to let go of the mutual hurt inflicted by the confusion we felt around my personal struggle.Now we can look back and better understand how we failed and what was missing as I struggled alone. Genuine curiosity and a diligent desire to connect even in the midst of our struggles would have been a lifeline to our marriage.
