What Does Boxing Day Have to Do with Christmas?

Boxing Day connects to Christmas because it was the day of Christmas for many poor families. Most of them would receive a gift on the day after Christmas. It causes me to think about Luke 12:48b “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.”

10 Reasons Why it Is More Blessed to Give than to Receive

The most unbelieved beatitude in the Bible is: “It is more blessed to give than receive” (Acts 20:35). The giver happier than the getter? Surely some mistake? That goes against all our intuitions and instincts. So let me help you to believe it and act upon it by giving you ten reasons why it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Do you see how giving makes us more blessed than getting? We can get so much happiness when we see how God is glorified in our giving and when we see Him bless others through our giving. Let's dive into the meaning behind this well known Bible phrase so we can better understand how to apply it to our daily living.

It is, of course, good to be thankful once we are through the trial. But when we give thanks in the trial, we will receive the multiplied blessings of courage, strength, and peace beyond human understanding.

How Do I Start Tithing When I Don’t Feel Ready?

Dear Roger and Friends I’m having a very difficult time financially. But I know that God has called us to tithe. I just don’t know where to start. Can you help me make a wise decision?Sincerely, JoAnnaHi JoAnna,This is Jeff. I recently received the same heartfelt question. I believe it speaks to a tension many of us feel. Someone shared, “I want to start tithing, but I just don’t feel ready.” That single sentence is packed with so much honesty: a desire to honor God mixed with a very real fear of not having enough. If you’ve ever felt this way, please know you are not alone. It’s a struggle that pits our faith against our finances, and it’s a conversation worth having.I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this exact tension. In fact, it’s the core of a principle I live by: Open hands lead to an open heart. Whatever we are willing to open our hands to—sharing our time, our influence, our resources—we are also opening our hearts to. The reverse is also true. When we clench our fists around something, we inadvertently close our hearts. This journey of generosity, starting with the tithe, isn't just about money. It's about opening our hearts completely to God as our loving Father and provider. So, let's walk through this feeling of “not being ready” together. What does it take to move from a place of fear to a place of faith-filled action?Photo Credit: ©iStock/Getty Images Plus/doidam10

Are We Really Supposed to Give Thanks 'In Everything?'

Is it really possible to, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” as 1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages? It seems like God is asking too much of us, especially during times of great disappointments, tremendous losses, or unbearable heartaches. It’s hard for us to comprehend how we are supposed to give thanks during these types of difficulties and challenges. The misunderstanding comes in thinking we’re supposed to give thanks “for” everything when God is leading us to give thanks “in” everything. It’s a concept some of us struggle with and resist, thinking God is telling us to be thankful “for” the difficulties. This makes us miss what He is really leading us to do, which is to be thankful despite the problems, to not let disappointments, failures, losses, and hurts keep us from being thankful to Him.During tumultuous times, God asks us to focus on Him and His faithfulness to us, rather than on our circumstances; to dwell on His promise to never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), and to trust Him to help us in every situation we face in life. How do we begin to give thanks in everything?

3 Things Worth Giving Away to Love People Well

God doesn’t require that we give up everything we have to love others well. But there are few things he has given us that he asks us to hold with open hands, ready to generously give a portion of in order for the people in our lives to get a taste of the sacrificial love of Jesus. Wondering what those three things are? Read on…

How to Teach Your Kids to Tithe

The most important thing you can do is to be an example to your children. How can we expect them to give freely if they don't see you giving? Just as we are to be Christ's example in every area of our lives, we can also be a good example through our giving. Although it takes faith to tithe, especially when money is tight, it demonstrates that God is a good God that provides for his children.
